Southern African Development Community (SADC) Road Safety Practitioners Convention to be held in Windhoek, Namibia on the 8th and 9th of April 2008.
The Southern African Development Community Road Safety Practitioners Convention, due to be held in Windhoek, Namibia on the 8th and 9th April 2008 is the first road safety convention to be held in the region and has been organised and funded by a collaboration of the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) Namibia, the National Road Safety Council (NRSC) of Namibia, the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the global Transport Knowledge Partnership UK (gTKP).
The broad aims of the convention are to assist African Governments, and other agencies working on road safety in Southern Africa to reduce the number road accident casualties, by facilitating the harmonisation of road safety standards and road safety good practices.
The convention will focus on the use of seat belts and road safety funding and will allow local practitioners to improve their knowledge of road safety good practice as well as contribute to the development of a consistent approach in the region.
Key components of the convention will be:
1. Developing a solid regional road safety partnership
2. Sharing local good practice
3. Developing a regional database
4. Presentation of the first in a series of road safety good practice guides; through workshops aimed at teaching the implementation of featured good practice measures.
The convention is primarily designed for road safety practitioners, namely Safety Engineers working in National Road Safety Commissions, Councils, Roads Authorities and Road Safety NGO’s. Participants will be required to pay for their own travel costs to and from the convention, although attendance at the convention and accommodation and subsistence costs will be paid for.
