The annual IFRTD regional meeting for Eastern and Southern Africa will be held between 26th and 28th of September 2005, in Kigali, Rwanda. It will be hosted by the National Forum Group of Rwanda, one of the 7 IFRTD affiliated national transport networks in Eastern and Southern Africa. Representatives from networks in Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and South Africa are expected to attend. A number of partner organisations have also been invited.Apart from developing a work plan for the period 2005-2006, the meeting will have a special focus on the theme of "rural transport hubs". In the run-up to the meeting, some exploratory work has been going on in Ethiopia, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and South Africa, seeking to bring some understanding of how rural transport hubs operate and their role in strengthening rural-urban linkages.
The fourth regional meeting for Latin America will take place in Matanzas, Cuba from the 5th till the 8th of September, hosted by the Grupo de Transporte Rural y Desarollo de Cuba (Cuba NFG). The meeting will host a workshop on monitoring and evalution, a pilot activity that it is hope will provide a basis for IFRTD’s future strategy for monitoring and evaluation. The LA Executive committee will set a framework for monitoring themselves using the methodology of outcome mapping.
