IFRTD Asia Regional Meeting 2005
Asian National Forum Groups from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia along with host India (Rajasthan RFG) successfully concluded the IFRTD Asia Regional Meeting from 12th to 15th September 2005 at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, Rajasthan in Inida. A Chinese rural transport delegation from Yunnan Province also attended the meeting for the first time as observers. The 12th September, the first day of the meeting was dedicated to a workshop on "Rural Road Safety" which was also attended by key officials of India's national rural road development programme, the "PMGSY".
The participants discussed at length in drafting the IFRTD's regional strategy for 2005-2010, which will also feed in to the strategy development session at the IFRTD Executive Committee Meeting in Stockholm in November this year. Besides, this the NFG representatives also came out with regional proposals for research.
The next venue for the IFRTD Asia Regional Meeting will be Cambodia in 2006.
