E-Discussion on Climate Change and Accessibility
The IFRTD Latin America network carried out during most of January an e-discussion on climate change and accessibility. The objectives of the e-discussion were:
- To deepen and broaden knowledge on climate change and its relation with accessibility issues in the Latin American region, positioning the issue in the agenda of IFRTDAL members.
- To create a critical mass about accessibility problems in rural areas caused by climate change.
- To identify potential niches of work for the IFRTD network on climate change and accessibility and that have a positive impact on the rural population of the Latin American region.
A framework document to initiate the discussion was shared through the e-group ifrtdal@dgroups.org During the first week, the objective was to go over the general concepts on climate change and the relation between climate change and accessibility. During the second week, the aim was to analyse the current agreements aiming at fighting the consequences of climate change and its impact on accessibility al local level. During the third week, contributions and proposals to fight climate change and its impact on accessibility were shared. Here the ILO document on climate change was also key for extracting possible avenues of work for IFRTD network.
A summary of the whole discussion and the documents will be available soon on IFRTD website and facebook. Contact: ana.bravo@ifrtd.org
