Network Governance - West and Central Africa
IFRTD’s network governance in West and Central Africa is currently under discussion. It is envisaged that a new governance structure will include a regional steering committee to serve as an advisory group to the IFRTD Regional Coordinator.
The current regional governance body consists of an annual regional meeting, which gather members from different countries alongside active individuals/partner organisations from the network. The meeting is hosted by network members in a different country in the region each year. No regional meetings were held in 2007 or 2008, as part of a strategic decision to re-direct resources towards strengthening the activities of national networks. This decision helped to support national initiatives in DRC, Cameroon and Burkina Faso, which have greatly contributed to increasing the visibility of the Forum in the region.
Regionalisation is an ongoing process within IFRTD, and remains a key focus in 2010. Tentative localities for a physical address for the regional Secretariat were discussed during the last regional meeting (Cotonou, Benin, November 2009), and further analysis is required for a final decision.
