About Us

Shehersaaz is a network of NGOs, individuals and organisations in Pakistan. It is strongly involved in policy advocacy on disaster mitigation with the Duryog Nivaran network. By affiliating to the IFRTD network Shehersaaz is looking to promote policy options that will improve rural transport and the consideration of mobilty and access during and post disaster situations, also in disaster preparedness.

In June 2007 Shehersaaz held a meeting inviting the current leading actors in the Rural Transport field in Pakistan. The meeting was well attended with representations from different organisations.

The most relevant outcomes of the meeting were:

  • More meetings are needed to formalise the network in Pakistan.
  • A working group comprising all the participants of the meeting will be established to pave way for the establishment/extension of the National Forum Group.
  • A strategy will be drafted to be approved by the working group in the next meeting to be held at National Rural Support Program (NRSP)
  • World Bank and Devolution Trust for Community Empowerment (DTCE) will also host one meeting each of the group.
  • The meeting will be regularised and groups/forum will meet every three months.
  • The network will be institutionalised and algined with the objectives of IFRTD.
  • A bibliography of literature on transport in the context of Pakistan will be prepared.

A full copy of the report is available here.
