Forum News 14.1: Checks and Balances – Governance in Rural Transport and Development.

This issue of Forum News explores what is meant by governance in relation to rural transport, and listens to various organisations and initiatives that are tackling this issue on the ground. In Uganda, NGO awareness raising activities are empowering civil society to make a united stand against poor delivery from the construction sector. Networking is helping IFRTD members in Sri Lanka and Colombia to engage in meaningful dialogue with their governments. The Trail Bridge Support Unit in Nepal addresses the positive impact of decentralisation on good governance, and Transparency International and the new CoST initiative shares their approach to addressing corruption and transparency within the transport sector.
